See, Eddie wasn’t some kind of traditionalist. He didn't care about old-fashioned gender roles. He didn't think omegas belonged stuck in a kitchen, and he didn't think alphas had to be the absolute bosses of everything. But he did believe in instincts. He believed in the natural order of things and what a body was meant to do. And looking at Buck, Eddie drew his own quiet conclusions: Buck was living in the wrong shell. He was miserable trying to force himself into the alpha mould, running himself ragged trying to live up to a biology that didn't fit his soul. Buck would be so much happier, so much better off, if he could just be an omega. In which, Eddie helped Buck become the omega he was meant to be.
