Fics like Gridlock

You earn your badge a few years late and land a position under Captain Lin Beifong, Republic City’s most feared metalbender. What begins as a tense professional dynamic curdles into something far more complicated: a hostage situation gone wrong, a burn that wasn’t your fault, secrets withheld, and the slow erosion of trust between a commander who cannot bend and the subordinate who sees too clearly. In the aftermath, you return to Air Temple Island just as Aang’s health begins to fail, and the family that once orbited his light starts to fracture in the shadow of his coming death. Grief, duty, and history collide in tight spaces — the precinct, the island, the kitchen — and nothing between you and Lin stays simple for long. A drama‑heavy, slow‑burn romance about authority and its failures, the families we build under strain, and the conversations that change everything — even when we’re not in the room to hear them. This is only the beginning.
