Fics like What if Ash met Meowth first?

Ash Ketchum was supposed to meet Pikachu first. He was supposed to oversleep, stumble into Professor Oak’s lab, and begin his journey with a stubborn Electric-type who wanted nothing to do with him. But Ash met Meowth first. Before badges, before Team Rocket, before the world decided what kind of trainer Ash Ketchum was allowed to be, there was a talking Meowth who taught him how to survive, how to listen, how to steal back what mattered, and how to become just a little bit impossible. Now Ash’s journey through Kanto begins with a different first partner, a different kind of confidence, and a talent for solving problems by being kind, clever, and occasionally appearing behind people who absolutely did not hear him coming. Pikachu still joins him. Team Rocket still causes trouble. The badges still wait. But this Ash is sneakier, softer in the places that matter, sharper where the world made him bleed, and very much Green’s son in all the most inconvenient ways. Kanto is not ready. Honestly, neither is Team Rocket.
