Fics like Constant Hum

For three months, the world has searched for Samantha Kane, a college science major who vanished during her ASYNC internship. But inside the Backrooms, time stagnates. To Sam, it has only been a few weeks of pure survival. The maddeninghum and the constant threat of mimics, monsters that copy human voices, have stripped away her sanity and fragments of her memory. Everything changes when she runs into Bobby Franklin, clutching a VHS camcorder, Bobby has just noclipped into the yellow halls. He instantly recognizes Sam as his close friend from back home—and the girl he secretly loved. But to a paranoid Sam, Bobby is a stranger. Worse, she fears he is a mimic wearing a familiar face. Forced to rely on each other to survive the non-Euclidean maze, their journey becomes a race against mind and time. While Bobby desperately tries to anchor Sam to her past, Sam uses her scientific logic to keep them alive. As they navigate the horrors together, the blank spaces in Sam's memory leave room for something entirely new to grow. In a world where nothing is real, their trauma-bonded alliance slowly evolves into a fierce, protective devotion—turning a tragic loss of the past into a deeply emotional, slow-burn romance.
