Fics like Careful the Wish You Make

Basically using the witch from Into the Woods to allow Frank to revisit his memories sequentially and work to fix things with Mary & Charley before it's too late. And hey, look, he's not alone here. ---- As if he’d been physically restrained and suddenly broken loose, Frank’s entire body jolts with the effort to rotate on the piano bench and see his friends. His fingers graze a wrong note, but Charley doesn’t seem to notice, straining to sing the chorus over the din of the party. Frank’s head turns and there’s Mary, standing behind them, her mouth a flat line, her gaze dark with disappointment. But there’s something else – a weariness to her eyes, wearing an expression that is too aged, too knowing for 23 years old. Frank’s heart jumps in his chest. It’s not possible. This is just a dream. These people are nothing more than vapors, distant memories. And then Frank’s sight drops to Mary’s hand, which is holding… a glass of amber liquid. Whiskey. Mary’s drinking. Mary. Drinking. Now– in 1962, at least four years before she should ever take her first sip. Frank swallows, hard, and his fingers leave the keys.
