Fics like Protect and Serve

Emily Carter is eighteen, overweight, and used to being bullied at school and blamed at home. When a beating leaves her bleeding in the hallway of King County High, Deputy Shane Walsh is the first officer on the scene. Shane is supposed to take her statement and move on. Instead, he sees the frightened, stubborn girl beneath everything people say about her, and he keeps showing up until Emily starts to wonder whether he needs her as much as she needs him. Then there is Shane’s icy, revolver-packing friend Detective Grimes, who takes an interest in keeping Emily safe, but who also starts appearing around Daryl Dixon, Emily’s rough, half-feral, touch-starved new friend and co-worker. Just as Emily begins to believe she might finally have people worth trusting, one last confrontation threatens to take all of them away. This is a Shane/OFC fic, but also the foundation and beginning of the Rickyl saga of the second fic of the series.
