Annatar came to Eregion as a teacher, a craftsman, and a bringer of knowledge. He was welcomed by Celebrimbor into his halls, and by Celebrimbor’s daughter far more deeply still. He left Eregion willingly and in peace, long before he returned with armies. Perhaps the most beloved parts of Eregion left with him. This story explores the missing years in the East: where Annatar went, how the Easterlings came to follow him, and whether a being who once seemed genuinely happy as Annatar was ever meant to become Sauron again.
