Fics like Baby of the Year!

“We are not entering Sofie in a baby Miss America contest, Ilya.” Shane frowns. “Ok? It’s degrading.” Undeterred, Ilya waves the crumpled paper in front of Shane’s face. The advert is blurry, but Shane gets his point: the baby on the front is cherubic, all gums and cheeks and big, blue eyes. “Is not a beauty pageant. See? Just a fun photo contest that everyone votes in. Our family, our friends and” — Ilya sweeps his free hand towards the living room — “all of her fans.” Or: The first time Ilya mentions wanting to enter their daughter Sofiya into a magazine’s Most Adorable Baby contest, Shane has thoughts.
