Victoria Harris is fourteen, wants to be a writer, and thinks she's figured out how the world works. Transactions. Her father's eyes following her. Proximity becoming possibility while her mother trusts the two people she loves most. Vic sees the pattern and decides to use it. What starts transactional becomes something else. Vegas hotel room freshman year. Plan B in parking lots sophomore year. Junior year, she's the one lifting the condom boundary. Through all of it, she's writing — turning everything into prose the way some people turn everything into prayer. Her best friend Madison gets pregnant at fifteen by her uncle. Vic watches her afterward, broken in ways Vic doesn't feel broken, and starts questioning what the difference is. The guilt eating at her isn't about her father. It's about her mother. A coming-of-age story about a girl who thought she understood transactions — and spent four years learning nothing about love, sex, or choice is clean enough to write. No rape/non-con. No recovery narrative. No moral resolution. For those looking for a happily ever after: this is as close as you'll get — but it's pretty close.
