Fics like I Keep Swimming So You Don’t See Me Drown

Mack keeps swimming so no one sees him drown. Will sees him anyway, in the fevers, the shaking hands, the mornings where Mack can barely stand. And when things finally slip, Will becomes impossible to shut out. Mack has spent years hiding his chronic illness, doing everything he can to keep up the image of the Sharks’ golden boy. But the harder he pushes himself, the harder it becomes to keep the cracks from showing, especially around Will. A story about chronic illness, caretaking, found family, and the slow, quiet shift between two boys who have always been close, and suddenly aren’t quite sure where the line is anymore.
