Fics like This Space That Used To Be Yours

Set in the Bay Timeline, this is primarily a Max-centric character study about the grief of survival, of the joy and pain of achieving new heights of success and having no one to truly share it with, and ultimately, an exploration of what it's like to keep living in a world where a part of you has been gone for almost as long as you had her. This piece takes place in the liminal space of the time right before Reunion, when Max still believes Chloe is dead, Chloe is waiting for her at Caledon, and the universe is trying desperately to bridge the gap between as Max Caulfield celebrates her success and mourns her losses, ignorant to the way her world has been tilted on its axis for months. Alternatively, Grief burns at its hottest when you're at your happiest and have no one to share it with.
