Silvered Tongues

“You’re like a shadow,” Will had said one evening, from his seat in the palace library, his eyes falling on where Mike stood beside the fireplace, “your silhouette, it’s always there.” “Would you prefer I stand behind your back,” Mike replied, not quite sure if Will’s comment was an accusation or just a plain acknowledgement. Will smirked, just slightly. “I think that’d be worse. Then I couldn’t tell when you’re staring or not. At least there,” he gestured towards Mike with his hand, “I can tell when you’re looking at me.” OR Will Byers is the second-born son of a decrepit royal bloodline, watching his brother inherit their neglected kingdom. Bearing his own arcane secret, he finds himself with fewer places to hide from his harrowing past. Mike Wheeler has tried running away from his duties as a nobleman his whole life. Ducking his head down in the face of excellence has led him to trail after his sister to a far-flung kingdom swathed with contemptuous whispers, and an even more taciturn prince. Their lives collide in the months leading up to Jonathan’s coronation, where their bond slowly blossoms into something much greater than a knight watching over his charge from afar.
