Fics like Sunflower Maintenance

Avery's pothos is dying. Derek knows this because Derek has retained, from eleven days of cosmic knowledge, a detailed and apparently permanent understanding of botany. He repots the pothos. He audits the windowsill. He acquires perlite. He talks to the plants, all of them, individually, with the same calm focused attention he gives everything, and Avery watches from the doorway and decides he is completely normal about this. He is not normal about this. Also Derek and Hastur have an ongoing disagreement that has been running for several weeks and shows no signs of resolution, and Avery buys sunflower seeds, and they talk about balconies in the careful sideways way they talk about most things, and a seedling comes up one day late and Derek crouches down to be level with it and says hi, you're late, but you're here, and Avery is so fine he has never been less fine in his life.
