Fics like Let's do it by halves
When Zack gets traded to LA, he knows he has to say goodbye to the jersey number he had chosen as a tribute to his brother who died two years prior, because one of the Kings' biggest names is already wearing it. So when he's told that number 12 has given it up for him to keep, Zack wants to do the right thing and thank him properly. Now, Zack's not particularly enclined to insist on things, he knows how to pick his fights, but when Laszlo Mahony-McAdam, ex number 12 on the Kings, simply refuses to talk about it, Zack does not feel like letting go. Mac's not in the same teammates circles, not in the same stratosphere gamewise, but Zack is curious, and if Zack decides to befriend his distant new Canadian teammate, he will.
