Fics like the promise of tomorrow (and all the tomorrows to come)

“For once.” Mydei sighs. “Can’t you at least grant me the honor of waking up next to you in the morning.” Phainon thinks the honor would be his. He's so close to just letting himself be coddled by the stubborn prince, almost giving in to those golden eyes staring so fondly at him, but he remembers their differences, how he is merely a knight tasked with guarding the castle halls while the one before him is the very person loved by entire kingdom, and he knows he has to stop himself from continuing whatever fantasy he's been brewing — A reminder that's long been overdue and yet still never done. "Maybe next time."
