Fics like The Bloodroot Would Disavow Its Sap Too

With Nom coming into the monarchy and declaring preparations for the upcoming war his top priority, Scott is quickly assigned to supplying the kingdom with enough potions to keep their people alive through the inevitable fighting. The problem is, despite Nom's trust and belief in Scott's abilities, he doesn't feel quite as confident in himself. And if he fails at properly brewing a potion meant to heal a dying soldier or citizen, then their death will fall solely on his hands. Thus, Scott makes the logical choice: to test his potions for efficacy before distributing them to the kingdom. The safest plan, really... Except for how the only way to test potions meant to heal is through applying them to injuries. Scott quickly solves that issue as well.
