Fics like Someone Whose Forge I Crash Into While Drunk

After leaving Mineral Town, Gray Mason buys an old butcher shop in the city and turns it into a forge, living upstairs with his tools, his cigarettes, and the kind of silence that keeps a man standing. He doesn’t expect much from the city. The city doesn’t expect much from him either. Then one night, a drunk girl named Claire Marlowe crashes through his door. What starts as inconvenience becomes routine: awkward apologies, late-night meals, a small steel otter, a bookstore café family that talks too much, a cat with terrible judgment, and a love neither of them knows how to name without ruining it. But when illness drags Gray back to Mineral Town and to the grandfather who raised him, he’s forced to reckon with grief, legacy, and the life he built in the city without meaning to. A story about blacksmithing, staying, and the quiet ways people become home.
