Fics like Shot to the Heart

Dennis swayed on his feet as the patient was rushed out so that another bed could be rolled in. Everything became disjointed, his body no longer responding to commands that should have been automatic. Panic surged, but even that felt distant, muffled, like he was underwater watching himself from somewhere just outside his body. “Trin. Go get Robby.” Was all that Dennis could mutter before he was unable to get his lungs and mouth to cooperate again. Then his knees gave out. Before he hit the floor he felt his chest spasming one violent, final contraction that didn’t resolve. Then it just… stopped. Or, Dennis’s heart stops. And of course, all he wants is to see Robby one last time.
