Fics like Hold My Hand, Consign Me Not To Darkness

"The first time Sam Winchester died, he died leaning on his brother, and hoping for heaven. The second time Sam Winchester died, he knew better. — — — — A prayer was a strange thing, especially the prayer of a dying man. All the wishes of a life, blurring together, undefined and unfulfilled. The most desperate pleadings of the soul. Sam’s final prayer was not truly to die; it was for a chance to set things right. — — — — Somewhere deep in the universe, a cosmic gear clicked as it turned. The sand of an hourglass flowed backward. — — — — Sam Winchester, age 22, woke with a gasp in the passenger seat of the Impala." --------- When Sam is killed on a hunt in season five, he denies Lucifer so strongly that the archangel can't fulfil his threat of reviving him. Instead, Sam is sent back to season one. What else is there to do with a second chance but try to fix everything that went wrong? Things go a bit off the rails from there.
