Trevor Zegras is used to being exactly the kind of man people think he is. Cocky. Flirty. Loud. A little too pretty for his own good, and fully aware of it. The kind of NHL player who can turn on the charm in half a second and talk his way through almost anything. Olivia Bennett is not remotely his type. She is a second-grade teacher with cardigan sleeves pulled over her hands, a too-soft voice, and a life built out of routines so gentle and ordinary they barely seem real next to his. She does not care that he is famous. She is visibly unimpressed by his nonsense. And worst of all, she has the kind of quiet, sincere sweetness that makes him feel like a hazard to be handled carefully. What starts as mild fascination during a Flyers school visit turns into a rapidly worsening problem for Trevor Zegras, who realizes—far too late and with absolutely no dignity—that the shy girl blushing through his flirting might be the first person who has ever made him want to deserve her. Or: Trevor meets a soft-spoken elementary school teacher, acts annoying about it, and then accidentally ruins his own life.
