Alex and Penny are both sophomore undergraduates at Zuzu University - Alex a journalism major, and Penny double majoring in education and classics. They didn't cross paths much leading up to their enrollments and it's not like they had any mutual friends back in Pelican Town, so imagine how stunned they were to meet in not one, but two classes three semesters into their time at the university. When their philosophy professor declares people need to partner up for a major assignment called the Simulation, a research paper centered around the broad topics of gender, love, and sex, Penny and Alex figure it'd be better to work together than face the even more awkward experiences of working with strangers. Their method in tackling the paper is one the professor explicitly stated was not the intention - but what's the harm if it helps them understand the material better? Or, Alex and Penny form a sex agreement to understand the concepts presented in their social philosophy class.
