Fics like i can try to pretend, i can try to forget (but it's driving me mad)

“I’m back!” came Miles’s voice. “Here are your drinks, some champagne for Rose and another beer for Shane.” Rose, who was sitting at the edge of their booth, accepted both and handed them to Shane, who took a swig immediately. He didn’t really want to get drunk, he never did, but at least having a pleasant buzz would help make this easier. “And look who I ran into,” Miles continued in a sing-songy manner. “Oh my god, is that Ilya Rozanov?” Rose exclaimed. === What if Miles had approached Ilya at the club and brought him over to meet Rose and Shane, blissfully unaware that Ilya and Shane's relationship was more than just an on-ice rivalry? Suddenly, it's gotten a whole lot harder for Shane to pretend and for Ilya to forget, when the objects of their obsession are sitting right in front of them. An alternate take on Episode 4/Chapter 14 where Shane and Ilya actually talk at the club instead of just staring at one another across the dance floor. Did kind of spiral out of control while writing into sort of a fix-it, or maybe just a timeline acceleration.
