The man doesn’t shake Wu’s hand. Instead, he bends into a bow, lifts Wu’s hand to his face, and presses a kiss to his knuckles, gaze on Wu the entire time. Mako flinches like he’s been shocked. Wu, eyes fixed on the man in front of him, barks out a surprised, breathless laugh. “That’s the proper way to greet a king, right?” The man asks with a sheepish grin. “I’m sorry, I’m just a commoner. I don’t really know the etiquette.” “No, that was–that was fine,” Wu assures him, a little dazed. “Not customary, but fine.” Mako glowers at the two of them. Something in his gut tells him this guy already knows he’s not being customary. - After Wu's failed coronation, Mako takes Wu out to help him feel better. He's not happy when someone else does a better job of it.
