Fics like When the Night Comes Down.

Sonic is gone. No body. No proof of life. Only blood, blue quills, and the silence left behind when the person no one knew how to lose does not come home. As Eggman’s war spreads and the Phantom Ruby bends reality into something crueler than violence, Shadow is pulled between the two bonds that have changed him most: Amy, the woman who has become his home and future, and Sonic, the rival turned best friend he refuses to abandon to the dark. But the war is not only breaking heroes. Behind the mask, Infinite is carrying secrets of his own—old jackal ruins, the Phantom Ruby’s buried history, a forbidden love, and a future Eggman can never be allowed to find. Because love is dangerous in wartime. It gives Shadow something to fight for. It gives Infinite something to hide. It gives the enemy somewhere to aim. And it forces them both to face the truth they have spent their lives outrunning: surviving is not the same as coming home whole. A Shadow-centered Sonic Forces rewrite about Shadow/Amy, Sonic & Shadow, Infinite’s hidden life, captivity, trauma, found family, war, and learning how to live after the world breaks.
