Fics like I once heard them say a kiss could wake me up, but I hope my prince will bring a sword (Well, it's a revolver.)

"We had a fight," there's no need to qualify with who, "I pushed where I shouldn't, and he said some things, you know how it goes." She does know. "So I waited. 1989, the whole night. The next night too; maybe he'd just mixed up the dates. Hardly unexpected, when there are so many of them. He wouldn't've missed it, after all. And then I got to thinking: how long is a twenty year spat to a pair of immortals? Pushed it out of my mind, for a long time." He wouldn't be telling her this unless it was for context, so she stays silent. He takes a breath, steels himself, continues. "And then I found this." He places a ruby on the table. It's flawless and beautiful and she has dreamed of owning a necklace like this. Everyone has. It is also thrumming with power. Not to the unattuned eye, perhaps, but the gentle way that Robert handles the gem has only a little to do with sentiment, and far more to do with an instinctive wariness. He's untrained, sure, but he sees. That's better than most can claim. "You need me to track him," She says, already rising from the table and rummaging around for the maps she needs.
