chaos theory noun the branch of mathematics that deals with complex systems whose behaviour is highly sensitive to slight changes in conditions, so that small alterations can give rise to strikingly great consequences. 'Is this really worth it?' Seems to be a recurring thought throughout Noir's life. He remembers thinking it at nine years old after snapping Lewis Frankel's neck. He remembers thinking it after Soldier Boy ruined his chance of being in Beverly Hills Cop. He remembers thinking it as his skull was smashed in by the same man who had taken everything from him. Now, here he is, forty years later. Despite being broken, the same whispering self-doubt has managed to cling onto whatever husk that's still left of him, murmuring a tiny, ‘was stopping him worth it?’ Noir shoves the thought down like every other time. He doubts that the whole ordeal with Starlight and The Deep will affect anything. It was just one awkward moment he stumbled into by accident. How much could that possibly change for him? - A rewrite of The Boys from Black Noir's POV if he had accidentally interrupted Starlight and The Deep's first meeting.
