Fics like Still Waters

Madeleine Perez did not come to Seattle to be impressed. She came for the job — executive assistant to Ruby Bennett, CEO of BluTech, environmental engineer, widower. She’s seen the interviews. She knows the public version: composed, articulate, untouchable. What she isn’t prepared for is the private one. Ruby Bennett is not difficult. She’s precise. There’s a difference — or so HR would like her to believe. What Madeleine finds instead is a woman who built an empire out of grief and has been running it at full speed ever since, because stopping would mean feeling. Everyone at BluTech has learned to work around her edges. Madeleine Perez has not read that memo. She doesn’t flinch. She doesn’t placate. And she has a strict policy against people who say one thing and mean another. Still Waters is a slow burn about grief that performs as function, and the specific disruption of someone who simply refuses to be managed. The world starts in black and white. Colour arrives slowly.
