Fics like the architecture of distance

Enver Gortash has always known exactly what Damien is. That's the problem. Set in the weeks before the Absolute's plans fracture into motion, the architecture of distance follows one night in which Damien , Bhaal's chosen, half-elf, a man who has built himself carefully and on his own terms, finds the walls he keeps between himself and Enver Gortash finally, irreparably compromised. Damien is five-foot-eight of scar tissue and controlled violence, black-eyed and sharp-faced, the kind of beautiful that looks like a warning. He was made from blood and bile, shaped by years of death into something that moves through the world like a predator, precise, watchful, difficult to surprise. He has fought for every inch of himself. He does not give ground easily. Gortash comes to deliver correspondence. He stays to take something apart. He does it quietly, the way he does everything, with patience and precision and the particular cruelty of a man who knows he's already won before the game begins. Damien knows he's being played. He has always known. It has never once been enough to stop it. The tension breaks. So does something else.
