Shane isn’t answering the door. Ilya assumes that’s because he hasn’t heard the knock on the door. Music is playing through the open door between the bedroom and the hallway. Ilya knows that Shane doesn’t really know music and definitely isn’t particular about it, which means he’s doing this for Ilya. Ilya wills his feet to move. After a few seconds they do. They feel heavy, like there are weights tied to them, but they bring Ilya to the front door, so he’s not complaining. He opens the door slowly and tries smiling at the man, presumably David Hollander, in front of him. “Hello,” presumably David Hollander says in a low voice. “I’m looking for Shane.” In a retelling of 'David finds Shane and Ilya in episode 6,' David arrives a couple of minutes later and as a result doesn't see Shane and Ilya making out. Shane and Ilya get to discuss coming out to Shane's parents on their own terms.
