Fics like Press Play

The phones went dead on July 1st. The Army came on the 6th. By the 9th, the dead were getting back up. Gary Hutchins has a wife, two kids, and a truck. What he doesn't have is a plan that survives first contact. Press Play follows his family and the soldiers losing their chain of command and the civilians who never had one as the exclusion zone collapses and the world outside it starts to sound the same. It's about the weight people carry when the only option is forward — and a seven-year-old who presses play on an empty tape because the sound of nothing is better than the silence.
