Set against the humid, atmospheric backdrop of a Maryland university, the story follows Chaeyoung Son, a talented and "messy" arts major who finds herself captivated by the enigmatic Professor Mina Myoui. Mina is a legend on campus—known as the "Ice Queen," she is a paragon of Victorian restraint, dressed in silk and lace, moving through the world with a precision that feels both beautiful and untouchable. When Chaeyoung enrolls in Mina’s notoriously difficult seminar, The Architecture of the Victorian Novel, an immediate, unspoken tension ignites. While Mina preaches the importance of "the vessel" (restraint and form), Chaeyoung advocates for "the kiln" (passion and the beauty found in breakage). Through private office hour consultations and late-night library encounters, the professional boundaries begin to blur. Chaeyoung is determined to find the cracks in Mina’s perfect foundation, while Mina struggles to maintain the "architecture" of her life against Chaeyoung’s disruptive, authentic heat. They are locked in a sophisticated game of intellectual flirting, waiting for the semester to end so the "scream behind the teeth" can finally be let out.
