Fics like Keeping Watch

“You sleep, I’ll watch.” We both know that they are not going to sleep. We both know that the moment they go still, they will be dead. And I will be alone. But I won’t say that, and they won’t say that, even if it’s the truth. “You…save Erid,” they say. Not a question. I will be the last Eridian on our ship. I will be the last hope. Or I will die. Just like every other Eridian has died here, and will eventually die on Erid, because we failed. I shift low, close to where my last friend lays. “You sleep, I will watch,” I tell them again. And they go to sleep. And they never wake up again. Rocky loses everyone on his crew. Years later, he meets an alien.
