Naruto was never truly welcome in Konoha, after all. Sasuke simply struggled to survive, nurturing his hatred for the one person who seemed responsible for his parents' deaths and the massacre of his clan. Naruto envied Sasuke for having a reason to hate; all he had —as he always had, for as long as he could remember— was an emptiness in his chest. He didn't understand, didn't understand why the villagers despised him so utterly, as if he were a monster. Until he finally understood, and not only him, Sasuke understood that he had been a pawn his entire life, and pawns —most of the time, if not always— are disposable and useless. Both are trying to survive in a world that turned its back on them at a young age. Because sometimes, in the absence of hope, the Will of Fire, the flame, the spark, simply goes out. And with that, darkness begins to embrace their souls. "Welcome to hell, boys. At least you're not alone here."
