Fics like cutting edge

"Oh, me too! Where are you from?" Rui asks, attempting to shift the mood to something more engaging. "Gwangju." "Ah, cool," and not really what Rui meant. "Where do you work?" She clarifies. "In a hair salon," he replies. There seems to be no malice in the way he manages to miss the point twice, so Rui lets the question hang in silence for a moment longer, so that, hopefully, Hyun fills it. "Scent." Rui's eye twitches. The enemy. It's been just over half a decade since Rui retrained as a hairdresser, and so far it's been working out. She's won national awards for her work for two years running, has the best friends she could ask for, and a life she's finally feeling confident in. After two weeks away, it starts to crumble. This is, undoubtedly, Hyun's fault.
