Fics like i will carry you home in my teeth

Gideon watches him that morning from the corner of his eye. Loading up his coffee with enough sugar to rot, Reid moves through the bullpen like a ghost haunting the house. He’s sweating bullets beneath layers of cotton, his fingers fidgeting with his coffee mug in a way that makes it look like he might drop it if he doesn’t reach his destination soon. He finally puts it down on his desk and slumps into the chair. The actions seem to leave him breathless. Gideon knows these signs. He knows what the unfocused, blow-out pupils mean, he knows what the itching and the sweating mean… but to say it out loud could shatter any illusions Reid was still holding together. ~ Or, the one where Gideon is forced to realize his beloved protege might not be doing as well post-abduction and torture as he wants to pretend he is, and Reid is forced to realize his life shouldn't end on his own bathroom floor.
