Fics like the dreadful need in the devotee (that made him turn around)

"The rest of his trip to the hospital was fractured into half-remembered blurs. A woman told him to try to move his toes; either he didn’t catch her reaction or she didn’t give one. The sirens of the ambulance swooped over him in undulating waves of pain; too-bright lights and too-loud noises weren’t unfamiliar territory, but this was something amplified. He felt like an ant under a magnifying glass, frying. Every medic he passed through the hands of told him to keep his eyes open. He was so tired. He just wanted to rest. Eventually, finally, they let him. The world faded to black, blissful. He still couldn’t remember what he had been planning to ask Ilya." Or, the timeline where Marlow's check on Shane is a career ending injury, and both Shane and Ilya have to grapple with the effects.
