Fics like Treat You Better.

After a tense race win, Max Verstappen is clearly off—his driving unusually reckless, more like he’s trying to burn something out of himself than control the race. Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, Alex Albon, and Carlos Sainz Jr. all notice something is wrong, their concern growing even as Max brushes everything off. Later, they discover the truth: Max had been secretly involved with Charles Leclerc since 2022 despite having a girlfriend, and had only just ended things days before Charles planned to propose to his own partner. Knowing this from Daniel Ricciardo, they realize confronting either of them would only reopen wounds, so they choose to stay silent and act like they know nothing. Still, the truth leaves a sharp, confusing ache in their chests—something they can’t quite name—only knowing they could have treated Max better.
