Fics like Forgive Me

A sound tore out of her before she could stop it, ragged and broken. It was the sound of an animal caught in a trap. It was the sound of desperation curdling in her veins. She curled instinctively, cradling her injured shoulder, breath coming in short, ragged pulls. Her whole world narrowed in that moment to pain and cold and the smell of damp earth inches from her face. Her body felt heavy. Immovable. For a second, she didn’t try to get up. A second was all it took. The tears came without permission, hot against ashen skin that barely felt temperature anymore. They mixed with rain and mud and tracked down into the dirt beneath her cheek. She pressed her forehead against the ground, her fingers digging into wet leaves. “Natasha—” The name broke on the way out. “I don’t know—” Her throat closed. “I don’t know if I can do this.” The admission felt obscene. Weak. Unacceptable. But it was true in that moment. “Please,” she choked out, the word a broken, strangled thing lying on the ground next to her, unable to carry itself anymore than she was. “Forgive me.” CW: Survival Horror with graphic injury and death.
