Fics like lights in the expanse of the sky (twelve months at the beginning of forever)

Lucifer was sleeping soundly beside her—soundly enough that he did not immediately stir at a mere glance from her like he so often seemed to do. It was a rare enough sight that she considered letting him sleep, but instead, she rolled over, kneeling on either side of him as he began to blink open his eyes. “Well,” he said, sleep in his voice no matter how suave he was trying to sound. “Good morning to you too, Detective.” Or, as much as human beings love and fear the idea of forever, life is only ever lived one day at a time. And sometimes, the only choices you have are who you are today and who you want to be tomorrow.
