Fics like those pesky protective instincts

Astarion is an alpha, posing as an omega for a variety of reasons but currently because all the other people in the camp with a secondary gender are also alphas (Lae'zel being a weirdo alien who only has one gender). Astarion decides to fake a heat using some potions, to convince one of the alphas that they need to protect him. Everyone knows that alpha hormones riddle you with those protective instincts, and that this happens mostly strongly during a shared heat/rut. This will secure much needed protection for Astarion in the camp dynamics. There is no way this can possibly backfire, because Wyll is definitely an alpha, and also Astarion hasn't had a rut in two hundred years, so why would he start now?
