Fics like Weight of Legacy

Malos reawakens in the snowy wastes of Tantal, cold and alone. Damaged and conflicted about his past, he tries to latch on to his new Driver out of curiosity and a desire to find a new place in the world. In an attempt to form a bond with his "reluctant" Driver, he falls back on old habits and his Driver ends up injured and amnesiac. Though, that might just be the one chance he has at proving he's changed... Aldous is one of the many Indoline survivors of his uncle's feud with Torna and the so-called "Saviour of Alrest". It's been eight years now, and he looks back on his childhood and those involved in the Indoline Tragedy with increasing bitterness. When he finds a strange Core Crystal near Tantal's shores, his life becomes undoubtedly worse, but with it comes a clean slate, and a chance to seize the agency he has yearned for for so long, alongside a new friend. Rex's aunt is worried about how one of the former orphans is doing; despite not being a very social kid, he's never failed to write a letter back. Rex goes to find him, eager to get the chance to improve his relationship with one of the few orphans he never managed to befriend. He finds far more than he bargained for.
