Fics like Remember, Remember, Our Last November

Rings are used to signify any number of things. They're used to display social status, to declare one's education, and as simple decoration. They're used to bind people in love for life. They're used as promises. It wasn't just his time on the Galra ship that Shiro had forgotten, but Keith wasn't going to be the one to try to bring those memories back if they were gone. He would go along like nothing had changed because for Shiro, nothing had, and the ring he wore around his neck gleamed, polished from him constantly worrying it between his fingers.
