Letting someone into your head means letting them know you to your core, and then losing them means being alone in a way you never could have been before. Ranger Ryu Rumi, former pilot of the legendary Mark IV jaeger Demon Song and a survivor of the Jaeger Program's golden age, before everything went wrong and the war turned against them, has paid that price. Once the pride of the Shatterdome, now she's scarred and alone, and the sheer weight of the loss has her resigned to that fate. So failed cadets Mira and Zoey, humanity’s last hope, have no place in her lonely world. But with the Breach growing more active again, Rumi is forced to return to the Shatterdome to teach them how to love what she lost, and to hold on to each other harder than anyone outside of the Drift ever could. But the Drift is a tricky thing, it calls to the heart and soul, so they start to want to hold on to her too, even as she tries to stay away. Because the Drift already ruined her once, and she doesn't have the strength to risk it happening again.
