Fics like Memento Mori (Remember You Must Die)

“Too hard to sleep knowing I’m there?” He teases, Robby smiles. Flicking away the ash as he lets out a low chuckle. “Something like that.” Dennis snorts, staring at his fingers as he tugs at the edge of his blanket. Robby keeps his hands to himself for a bit, it registers distantly that his face is slightly numb from the cold. But Robby is out here, and the bed is far colder when he’s alone than the balcony is when Robby is next to him. Robby sets his lips, stroking his beard in thought for a moment before he speaks. Far too calm. “Did you know I never wanted to get married?” Dennis looks up, the words falling flat between them. Oh. Well, no. He didn’t know that. “Uh, no.” Dennis stills, his jaw surely hangs open. His eyes sting inexplicably at this revelation. Or maybe it isn’t so inexplicable. Maybe he knows why it hurts. Of course he does. Because Dennis does want to get married. And he can’t imagine that with anyone but Robby. Or Robby never wanted to get married, that is, until he met Dennis. He tells him as much, albeit inefficiently at first.
