Fics like Act One: Awakening

UPDATES EVERY 2 DAYS! In mid-August 2024, a group of Lutheran deaf and hearing teens drift through Latin drills, forced religion classes, and suffocating expectations, signing secrets where adults refuse to listen. Wendla Bergmann, sheltered and restless, learns how to lie gently, to her parents, to herself, while stumbling into first love with Melchior Gabor in the woods. Melchior, brilliant and reckless, writes what he isn’t supposed to know and defends what no one is allowed to question, even as his certainty begins to fracture. Around them, friendships tangle into something sharper and more dangerous. Moritz Stiefel spirals under pressure and unspoken desire, clinging to Melchior while drowning in dreams he doesn’t understand. The girls, Ilse, Martha, Anna, Thea, Melitta, navigate faith, queerness, family violence, first crushes, and rebellion in quiet kitchens and overheated bedrooms, each learning different ways to survive. Parents watch too closely or not at all. Teachers punish curiosity. And as schedules are handed out and lines are drawn, everyone begins to sense it: something is breaking, and growing up might cost more than anyone was warned it would.
