Fics like Playing for Keeps: Life After The Long Game

“I want our family,” Ilya said. “I want children. Permanence, I think is the word... A life with you. More than anything.” Shane felt his throat tighten. “I want that too.” Ilya nodded, eyes swelling. “I know. That is why I need to say everything now. Before I lose the nerve.” He took Shane’s hands, grounding himself. “I am trying to be strong for you. But I need you to be strong for me too.” “I am,” Shane said immediately, almost offended. “I know,” Ilya said. “But I need you to listen.” Shane nodded. “I am listening.” “I do not want to play hockey much longer,” Ilya said quietly. “Maybe couple more seasons. And then I am done.” Shane stared at him. “Done?” “Yes.” “With hockey. You’re serious?” “Very,” Ilya said. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Set one year after The Long Game, this story follows the fallout of a commissioner who refuses to loosen his grip, and the players who finally refuse to bend.
