Fics like The Invasion

Lucas glanced at the window and then back at Shirish. ‘You’re here for Merlyn?’ ‘What? My goodness, no. Do I look like a man who craves… conflict?’ His expression was a pinched mixture of distaste and dislike. ‘I’m merely here in response to the pleading of my… constituents, I might say.’ He waved his hand. ‘To restore a little of the balance that has been lost in your battle with Miss Temple.’ Lucas narrowed his eyes. ‘Restore it how?’ Shirish smiled. ‘Sheriff… may I call you Lucas? Lucas, you are interested in people. Miss Temple is interested in people. Good for you! Good for her! I, on the other hand, am not interested in people. There are individuals for whom I have more than passing affection, naturally, but overall… people are overrated. Your war with Miss Temple is a matter of supreme disinterest to me.’ His lips twitched. ‘Well, apart from a certain academic curiosity in the general doings of ridiculously attractive people.’
