Fics like he’ll ignite in the night like a light, just so bright (soon the whole world will see)

There wasn’t really a singular moment in which David realized that he wanted to die. It was a gradual transition. Like a fish in a pot of slowly boiling water, not realizing that the heat was rising before it was too late. No, it started with simple carelessness. At first it felt almost like a joke he told himself. A private rebellion. Standing at the curb and thinking, If something happened, it wouldn’t be my fault. Letting the thought brush past him, light as dust, and then continuing on. He didn’t want to die. He was certain of that. He just didn’t feel particularly invested in preventing it if it were to occur.
