But if you could—” “Cap, please. It’s just… No,” Eddie cut in, pleading more than he meant. “I can't miss it. Not this year. Christopher is counting on me. He needs at least one parent tonight, and Buck’s not home yet.” The words hung there, heavier than the chatter in the background. Bobby had known Eddie for over a year now —long enough to hear the stories, the mentions of Buck slipping into conversations like echoes. He had been Eddie's anchor, unseen but ever-present. “Yeah,” Bobby sighed quietly. “I had to ask, I’m sorry.” Eddie managed a half-smile. “I know. I’m sorry, too.” or, a Christmas in the Buckley-Diaz household.
