Fics like Leave Your Simple Ways and Live

After Skeleton Island, Silver drags Flint inland toward Savannah, toward the impossible promise of Thomas Hamilton alive and waiting. Silver thinks he’s accounted for Flint’s temper, Flint’s grief, Flint’s war. He hasn’t accounted for Flint’s refusal to go quietly. One bloody chance on the road is all it takes for Flint to seize control back. But Flint learns there is no contempt sharp enough, no war loud enough to drown out a love that’s sunk clear to the bone. Loving John Silver was its own trial by fire. It didn’t absolve a fucking thing. It didn’t throw a shroud over betrayal or sweeten the poison. It was a force that compelled in spite of sense – love the man anyway, love him because he is wrong and still yours. Or: The one where Flint chooses Silver.
